Sirens: Driver goes into reverse after spotting officer; Home hit by burglars; Officer says dancing is not a crime

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Burglary

• An officer was dispatched to a burglary that was discovered at about 7:45 p.m. March 14 in the 1900 block of Ahlers Avenue. The victims returned home to find that the front door to their residence had been forced open and several items had been stolen. Some of the stolen items included a Dell computer, a Samsung curved screen computer monitor, a flatscreen Samsung TV, a paint sprayer, a Brother sewing machine and a Milwaukee power tool battery charger.  This case is currently under investigation.

 

Alcohol violation

• Just after 8:20 a.m. on March 13, officers received a report that Centralia Middle School students “brought alcohol to school and shared it with other students.” The case is under investigation.

 

DUI

• A 44-year-old Centralia man was arrested at the intersection of North Tower Avenue and East Third Street just before 9:25 p.m. on March 13 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI.

 

Dispute

• A verbal dispute “that ended up being two people talking loudly” was reported in the 1200 block of Alder Street just after 12:35 p.m. on March 13.

 

Assault

• A fourth-degree assault with “possible minor injury” was reported in the 300 block of West Pine Street at approximately 3:10 p.m. on March 13. The case is under investigation.

 

Hit-and-run

• A 65-year-old Chehalis man was arrested and cited for hit-and-run after he was involved in a collision in the 1600 block of Harrison Avenue just before 4:05 p.m. on March 13 and attempted to flee the scene on foot. His passenger, a 52-year-old Centralia woman, was arrested on several outstanding Centralia Municipal Court warrants.

 

Criminal trespassing

• A homeless man was reportedly “loitering” on a business’ property in the 900 block of West Main Street at 8:10 p.m. on March 13. The man left the scene before an officer arrived. The business owner asked police to trespass the man from the property.

• Two subjects were reportedly camping on a business owner’s property in the 600 block of North Tower Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. on March 13. Both subjects were trespassed from the property at the property owner’s request. The subjects were later issued camping infractions after an officer located them camping in the 200 block of West Center Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. on March 14. “Local resources were offered. However, they refused any assistance,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A man was reportedly “screaming and banging” on someone’s door in the 1000 block of Woodland Avenue at approximately 9:35 p.m. on March 13. The man, 32, of Centralia, was cited for second-degree criminal trespass.

• A 45-year-old Centralia man and a 34-year-old Centralia woman were arrested for trespassing on private property in the 1600 block of Reynolds Avenue at about 2:45 p.m. on March 14.

• A transient from Oregon was trespassed from private property in the 200 block of East Third Street at about 3:25 p.m. March 14.

• A transient from Centralia was trespassed from private property in the 1500 block of Logan Street at about 4 p.m. March 14.

 

Theft

• A 31-year-old Oakville man was arrested for attempting to steal shoes from an outlet store in the 100 block of West High Street just after 5:05 p.m. on March 13. He was also arrested for possession of suspected narcotics and two outstanding felony warrants.

• A 45-year-old Auburn man and a 31-year-old Puyallup woman were arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal jail for shoplifting from an outlet store in the 100 block of West High Street just after 7 p.m. on March 13. The man was additionally booked for a weapons violation. The woman was additionally booked for possession of suspected narcotics.

• A vehicle license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1400 block of View Avenue at 8:06 a.m. on March 14.

 

Crashes

• A two-vehicle collision was reported at 9:41 a.m. March 14 at the intersection of Mellen and Ellsbury streets. The at-fault driver was issued a citation.

 

Criminal impersonation

• While on proactive patrol in the 700 block of South Tower Avenue at about 9:07 a.m. March 15, an officer observed a vehicle traveling north stop at a stop sign. After seeing the officer, who was stationary in his patrol car, the driver of the vehicle refused to drive any further. After waiting at the stop sign for approximately 45 seconds, the vehicle began to back up away from the patrol car, traveling the wrong direction on the one-way road. The vehicle then pulled into a nearby driveway.  When the officer pulled behind the vehicle with his emergency lights on, the female driver exited her vehicle and began to quickly walk away. The officer was able to stop and detain the female, who was identified as a 35-year-old Centralia woman. When speaking to the woman, officers observed suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia in her vehicle. The woman denied consent for the officers to search the vehicle and retrieve the contraband. She was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on a Lewis County Superior Court warrant for first-degree criminal impersonation. Prior to entering the jail, the woman admitted to having drugs in her undergarments. Fentanyl pills and powder were recovered from her person at the jail. The case is pending a search warrant for the vehicle the woman was driving. Charges of driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance will be referred to the prosecutor’s office.

 

RV fire

• Officers responded to assist the Riverside Fire Authority with an RV that caught fire at about 12:25 a.m. March 15 in the 1100 block of Grand Avenue. The fire appeared to have been started from within the camper, which was occupied by the transient male owner who denied any involvement.

 



CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• A caller reported a male subject stole his ID, debit card and a medical insurance document in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just after 7:30 a.m. on March 13.

• A third-degree theft reported in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 2:35 a.m. on March 14 is under investigation.

• A grease gun was reportedly stolen from a business in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 10:10 a.m. March 14.

 

Criminal trespass

• A homeless man was reportedly sleeping in front of a business in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 7:55 a.m. on March 13. The reporting party asked police to trespass him from the business.

• A homeless subject was reportedly camping in a flower bed in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard at 10:05 a.m. on March 13.

• A customer was reportedly yelling at another customer and employees at a business in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just after 6:25 p.m. on March 13. She was trespassed from the business for one year.

 

Assault

• A fourth-degree assault reported in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street at 8:35 a.m. on March 13 is under investigation.

 

Dancing

• A woman in the 100 block of Southwest Lewis Street was reportedly “in the front yard, dancing around” with her “shirt off (and) pants falling down” just after 1:05 p.m. on March 13.

• A woman was reportedly “outside (a) business dancing and singing” in the 1600 block of North National Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. on March 13. Dispatch advised that “dancing on (the) sidewalk is not a crime unless (the subject is) walking in (the) roadway, trespassing, etc.”

 

Vehicle accidents

• A three-injury collision was reported at the intersection of Southeast Sixth Street and South Market Boulevard just before 1:45 p.m. on March 13. At least one subject who was involved in the crash reported back, knee and head pain after a vehicle’s airbags deployed.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. on March 13.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue at about 6:32 p.m. March 14. 

 

Shooting complaint

• A caller reported hearing a gunshot in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 9:10 p.m. on March 13.

 

Disputes

• A caller reported “gang-ish” activity, yelling and screaming in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 11:40 p.m. on March 13. An officer followed up with subjects in the area who “stated nothing had happened.”

• A possible physical dispute was reported in the 300 block of North Market Boulevard at 12:40 a.m. on March 14.

 

Juvenile problems

• A group of teenagers was reportedly “blasting rap music and smoking weed” at a park in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street at about 4:53 p.m. March 14.

• A group of “unruly kids” was reportedly “being mouthy,” searing and knocking items off of shelves at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 7:38 p.m. March 14.

• A report from the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 8:37 p.m. March 14 indicated there was a party where underage drinking was occurring and attendees were “handing out stuff and exchanging money.”

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 151 inmates, including 139 in the general population and 12 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 111 were male and 28 were female. Of the WERC inmates, 10 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Friday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 25 inmates, including eight booked by the Centralia Police Department, 14 booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Lummi Nation, one booked by Chehalis Tribal Law Enforcement and one booked by Chehalis Tribal Court.
