Sirens: Defendants sentenced for pot grow; pair arrested doing drugs on sidewalk; disorderly man causes problems at businesses

The following list is not comprehensive. Superior Court records can be accessed at the Lewis County Clerk’s Office in Chehalis.

Sentencings

• Zachary J. Harris, 46, was sentenced June 3 to five years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of violation of a protection order (domestic violence). According to court documents, Harris had two previous convictions for violating court orders.

• Weiliang Liu, 54, was sentenced June 3 to 60 days in jail with two days of credit for time served and 12 months of community custody after pleading guilty to one count of accomplice liability possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana. • Ming Xian Lei, 61, was sentenced June 3 to 60 days in jail with two days of credit for time served and 12 months of community custody after pleading guilty to one count of accomplice liability possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana. • Gordon J. Harper Jr., 52, Randle, was sentenced June 3 to 45 days in jail with 45 days of credit for time served after making an Alford plea to one count of fourth-degree assault and pleading guilty to one count of resisting arrest. • Amanda K. Harris, 35, Winlock, was sentenced June 3 to 140 days in jail with 140 days of credit for time served and 12 months of community custody after making an Alford plea to two counts of third-degree assault. As part of the plea deal, the court dismissed one count of obstructing a law enforcement officer.

• Cheryl D. Smothers, 66, Centralia, was sentenced June 5 to 89 days in jail with 89 days of credit for time served and 12 months of community custody after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance. Smothers must complete substance abuse evaluation and treatment as part of her sentence.

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Tristan Garcia, 19, Coupeville, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged threats to kill, assault and third-degree theft (domestic violence) in the 700 block of South Pearl Street at about 4:51 p.m. June 26. Prior to his arrest, an officer had reportedly responded to a suspicious circumstance that quickly evolved into a physical fight. The Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office declined to file charges, according to court documents.

• Desmond Moore, 30, Union, and Jonathan Barela, 40, Rochester, were arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged use/delivery of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and loitering for drug-related activities in the 900 block of Johnson Road at about 7:05 p.m. June 26. Police allegedly found the two suspects consuming narcotics on a city sidewalk.

• Brent A. Harner, 37, Elma, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for allegedly stealing over $200 worth of items from a business in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue at about 5:18 p.m. June 27. Officers located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle leaving the scene.

Accidents

• Officers responded to a single-vehicle collision into a building in the 1200 block of Belmont Avenue at about 7 a.m. June 29. No significant injuries were reported.

Assault

• Jessica Desimone, 29, Chehalis, was issued a criminal citation for fourth-degree assault after allegedly assaulting and injuring a household/family member in the 1200 block of Alder Street at about 1:45 a.m. June 27.

Burglary

• A residential burglary was reported in the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue at about 2:10 p.m. June 28.

Criminal trespass

• Several local businesses requested that a disorderly male be trespassed from property on Harrison Avenue at about 10:44 a.m. June 26. The man was later cited for violation of the city’s open container law in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. June 26.

• Keith Byman, 38, Chehalis, was arrested in the 600 block of South Tower Avenue at about 1:23 p.m. June 26 after he had allegedly been trespassed from several locations. Police said Byman was transported to the bus so he could return home. According to police, Byman got on the bus, stayed in Centralia and allegedly returned to a location from which he had been trespassed. Police arrested Byman and booked him into the Chehalis Tribal jail.

• Singh Balkar, 48, Kent, was arrested for first-degree criminal trespass in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue at about 3:21 p.m. June 27 after officers allegedly trespassed him from a local business — only to find him immediately go back inside. Police said Balkar was denied booking by the Lewis County Jail because he hadn’t been medically cleared. Police cited and released Balkar at the hospital because there weren’t officers available to sit with him. Police reportedly contacted Balkar again in the morning in front of another local business. He was allegedly severely intoxicated. A local citizen reportedly stopped and helped translate for Balkar. Police said Balkar was ultimately taken to the hospital for involuntary treatment.



• A local transient individual was trespassed from a business in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue at about 3:53 p.m. June 27. The woman was trespassed from other businesses in the 100 block of West High Street at about 7:03 p.m. June 27 after security contacted her while she was inside a dumpster. She allegedly refused to leave until officers arrived at the scene.

• A local transient individual was trespassed from private property in the 900 block of South Gold Street at about 6 p.m. June 28.

DUI

• Randolph F. Vanderveldt, 64, Centralia, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence in the 1900 block of North Pearl Street at about 11:17 p.m. June 28.

Forgery

• A local resident reported in the 1200 block of H Street at about 10:41 a.m. June 26 that someone had stolen their check and changed the payee line.

Nuisance violation

• A 33-year-old Centralia resident was issued a criminal citation for camping on city property in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue at about 8:02 p.m. June 26.

Possession of methamphetamine

• Mark Silva, 46, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged possession of a controlled substance and use/delivery of drug paraphernalia in the 1200 block of Prospect Avenue at about 12:35 a.m. June 27.

Hit-and-run

• Police investigated building damage in the 900 block of Johnson Road at about 8:11 a.m. June 27. Police said the damage appeared to have been caused by a vehicle.

• A hit-and-run collision was reported in the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue at about 1:58 p.m. June 28.

Theft

• Police identified no suspects following a reported theft at a local business in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road at about 12:13 p.m. June 26. 

• Coins were reported stolen in the 1300 block of Rose Street at about 5:25 p.m. June 28. The case is under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests and citations

• Adrienne E. Chester was issued a criminal citation and released for one count of alleged third-degree theft in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 7:25 a.m. June 25.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of June 29, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 138 inmates, including 125 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 105 were reported male and 20 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of June 29, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 18 inmates. Of those, eight were from Centralia, one was from Chehalis and three were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there were three from the Lummi Nation and one each from the Quileute Nation, the Shoalwater Bay Tribe and the Skokomish Tribe.
