Sirens: Crash Occurs After Yew and Mellen Intersection Mistaken for Roundabout; Unlawful Possession of Firearm; DUI Arrest

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Vehicle Accident 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Yew and Mellen streets when one driver reportedly “thought the intersection was a roundabout” and started to drive back around to the left, into the path of another vehicle. The at-fault driver was issued an infraction. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision that caused damage was reported at the intersection of Harrison and Belmont avenues just after 4:10 p.m. on Nov. 18. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of West First and North Pearl streets just after 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 20. One vehicle reportedly failed to obey a signal and collided with another vehicle. 

 

Hit-and-Run 

• At 5:40 p.m. on Nov. 18, a hit-and-run that occurred in the 200 block of South Pearl Street earlier in the day was reported. 

• John D. Martinez, 25, of Centralia, was arrested in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 8:55 p.m. on Nov. 20 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence and for a hit-and-run to an attended vehicle. 

 

Theft 

• Merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 1300 block of Lum Road just after 5:20 p.m. on Nov. 18. 

• Merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 1400 block of Lum Road at approximately 5:55 p.m. on Nov. 18. 

• An employee reportedly stole items from a business in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue just after 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 20. 

 

Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 

• A Tumwater man was arrested in the 1200 block of Mellen Street just after 3 a.m. on Nov. 20 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for an outstanding Centralia Municipal Court warrant and for unlawful possession of a firearm. The firearm was possibly stolen out of the Tumwater area. 

 

Malicious Mischief 

• A Chehalis man was arrested in the 400 block of West Pine Street at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Nov. 20 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree malicious mischief after he allegedly threw a rock at a parked vehicle several times, breaking the windshield and damaging a door. 

• An unidentified suspect reportedly broke the back window out of a parked vehicle with a pumpkin in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue just before 8:25 a.m. on Nov. 20. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Vehicle Accidents 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 600 block of Southeast Adams Avenue just after 2:10 p.m. on Nov. 18. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 500 block of Northeast Jefferson Avenue just after 7:20 p.m. on Nov. 18. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:35 p.m. on Nov. 19. 

 

Trespassed From Property 



• A case of trespassing was reported in the 10 block of Northwest Boistfort Street just after 3:25 p.m. on Nov. 18. 

• A man who was reportedly peeing on the sidewalk in the 300 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 was trespassed from the property. 

 

Harassment 

• A case of harassment was reported at the intersection of Glacier Peak Lane and Hewitt Road at 4:15 p.m. on Nov. 18. 

 

Assault 

• A possible domestic violence assault, where a teenager hit a parent in the head during a dispute, was reported in the 500 block of Southwest William Avenue just after 1:05 p.m. on Nov. 19. No arrests were made. 

• A second-degree assault reported at the intersection of Southwest Sixth Street and Southwest McFadden Avenue at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Nov. 20 is under investigation. 

 

Dispute

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 900 block of Northwest Pennsylvania Avenue just after 2:20 a.m. on Nov. 20. The subjects had reportedly “been drinking and were arguing over a misunderstanding,” but “everyone was settled down” when officers arrived. 

 

Theft 

• A case of shoplifting was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:55 p.m. on Nov. 18. 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1700 block of North National Avenue at 6:20 p.m. on Nov. 18 is under investigation. 

• A subject was cited for shoplifting in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 4:05 p.m. on Nov. 19. 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 3:35 p.m. on Nov. 20 is under investigation. 

 

DUI 

• Edu A. Leal, 30, of Chehalis, was arrested at the intersection of Kresky Avenue and Northeast Scott Johnson Road just after 11:25 p.m. on Nov. 18 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 159 inmates, including 144 in the general population and 15 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 116 were reported male and 28 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 13 were reported male and two were reported female.
