Sirens: Couple threatened with a knife, man dancing in his underwear, vehicle vs. train crash

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Attempt to contact

• Officers responded to “a disoriented female in a grocery store parking lot” in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 1:05 p.m. on Jan. 22. The woman, from Tacoma, “appeared to be in crisis” and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Vehicle accidents

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of South Tower Avenue and East Locust Street at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 22.

Malicious mischief

• Just after 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 22, a caller reported someone “threw a rock through a window of their vehicle as they drove by, causing the window to shatter” in the 4000 block of Galvin Road.

Burglary

• Unlawful entry into a vacant residence in the 600 block of South Ash Street was reported at 8:40 a.m. on Jan. 23. “It was also reported that someone had utilized the dryer while inside the residence; however the homeowners did not wish to pursue criminal charges if the suspect(s) were located,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

Theft

• Alcohol was reported stolen from a store in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue just after 10:10 a.m. on Jan. 23. The case is under investigation.

• Just before 12:25 p.m. on Jan. 23, a theft from a store in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue that occurred between Jan. 14 and Jan. 17 was reported. The case is under investigation.

• A juvenile allegedly stole merchandise from a department store in the 1300 block of Lum Road just before 6:10 p.m. on Jan. 23. The case is under investigation.

• A “fraud/theft” that occurred at a gas station in the 2300 block of North Pearl Street was reported just after 9:25 p.m. on Jan. 23. After leaving the gas station, a customer discovered three separate unauthorized $500 charges on their credit card. This case is currently under investigation.

Criminal trespass

• Police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of West Third Street just before 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 23 for a report of a female sitting on a front porch chair. When the resident confronted the female and asked her to leave, the female became hostile and began threatening the resident. An officer located the female approximately an hour later and trespassed her from the property per the residents’ request.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• A disorderly man who was reportedly “yelling and screaming” in front of a store in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 9:55 a.m. on Jan. 19 was cited for trespassing.

• A subject who was reportedly “throwing backpacks and other items over the barrier” of a roadway in the 1900 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue was cited for trespassing.

• A subject was trespassed from a property in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 12:20 p.m. on Jan. 19.

• A criminal trespass reported in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 4 p.m. on Jan. 21 is under investigation.

• A caller reported a possible homeless camp in the 1900 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue just before 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 22.

• A male subject who was reportedly “harassing customers” and “driving reckless” was trespassed from a property in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way just after 7:35 p.m. on Jan. 23.

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest North Street and Northwest Chehalis Avenue just after 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 19.

• A vehicle vs. train collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest West Street and Northwest State Avenue just before 8:20 p.m. on Jan. 20. No injuries were reported. The incident is under investigation.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest State Avenue and West Main Street at 10 a.m. on Jan. 22.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported on the northbound Exit 77 on-ramp to Interstate 5 just before 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 22.

Assault

• Danny Allen Smith, 50, of Chehalis, was arrested in the 800 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue just after 12:50 p.m. on Jan. 19 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly assaulting a woman, causing her to bleed from the head. He was charged Jan. 22 in Lewis County Superior Court with one count each of second-degree assault domestic violence and fourth-degree assault domestic violence. Bail is set at $10,000, and arraignment was scheduled for Jan. 25.

• A subject was arrested in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at approximately 10 a.m. on Jan. 21 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault.

Disorderly conduct

• A male subject was reportedly throwing rocks at vehicles and yelling at people in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 19.

• Two juveniles were reportedly throwing items off the overpass onto the freeway in the 600 block of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just after 3:50 p.m. on Jan. 20.

• A homeless person was reportedly “disturbing people in the parking lot” of a business in the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place just after 11:05 p.m. on Jan. 20.

Theft

• Two men reportedly stole tools from the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Jan. 19.

• A vehicle prowl was reported in the 100 block of Southwest 11th Street just before 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 19.

• A vehicle with ammunition and a machete inside was reported stolen from the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street at 7:50 a.m. on Jan. 20.

• A vehicle prowl was reported in the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place just after 9:15 a.m. on Jan. 20.

• A possible shoplift was reported in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 20.

• A vehicle prowl reported in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 20 is under investigation.

• Just after 7:50 a.m. on Jan. 21, a garbage can was reported stolen from the 10 block of Southwest Seventh Street sometime overnight.

• A shoplift was reported in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just before 7 p.m. on Jan. 22.

• A theft that occurred in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue about two weeks prior was reported just after 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 22.

• A vehicle theft reported in the 10 block of South Market Boulevard just after 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 23 is under investigation.

• A shoplift was reported in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just before 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 23.

Harassment

• Latrell Allen Hughes, 18, of Chehalis, was arrested in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 19 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail after he allegedly threatened to kill a husband and wife with a knife in a parking lot. The couple was reportedly driving through the lot while Hughes, who was wearing “a black pinstripe suit and a fedora,” was walking down the middle of the lane. Hughes reportedly “took offense” when asked to move out of the way and allegedly confronted the couple, opened a pocket knife with a 3- to 4-inch blade, and said “I’ll kill you,” according to court documents. He was charged Jan. 22 with one count each of second-degree assault and felony harassment. Bail is set at $10,000, and arraignment was scheduled for Jan. 25.

• A caller reported a 16- to 17-year-old male was harassing them in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 22.

Suspicious circumstances

• At 4:35 a.m. on Jan. 20, a caller reported finding “a ton of blood” at a gas station in the 100 block of Northwest State Avenue. There was reportedly a “trail of blood leading from the pump and all around it.” The hospital reported “no one checked in with any consistent injuries,” and officers did not locate anyone with evidence of injury.

• Two subjects were reportedly running down the street and cutting wires off telephone poles at the intersection of Southwest Chehalis Avenue and Southwest Third Street just after 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 20.

• A male subject was reportedly “dancing around in his underwear” in the 700 block of West Main Street just before 7:40 p.m. on Jan. 20. An officer contacted the man, who was clothed, and asked him to leave. The man “said he was fine, and he would move along.”

• Just after 12:40 a.m. on Jan. 21, a caller in the 10 block of Southwest 10th Street called to report their “house has been overrun with demons, and (they) need someone to get them out and make sure the house is clear.” The caller declined crisis services. The residence was cleared, and a mental health report was submitted.

• A male subject was reportedly burning boxes in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 6:20 a.m. on Jan. 22.

• Just after 3 p.m. on Jan. 22, a caller reported a male approached her and asked her for her cellphone and $20 in the 300 block of Southeast Washington Avenue. She said she “reached into her purse and pulled out her Taser and triggered it a couple of times, and he ran off,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A “drug-fueled block party” was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Jan. 23. The subjects scattered when officers arrived.

Malicious mischief

• At 9:35 a.m. on Jan. 20, a caller reported a vehicle was keyed in the 500 block of Northwest Rhode Island Place sometime overnight.

Disputes

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Jan. 20.

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 100 block of North Market Boulevard just after 7:10 a.m. on Jan. 22.

• A “family disturbance/dispute” was reported in the 400 block of Southwest 19th Street just after 9:05 p.m. on Jan. 23.

Burglary

• At approximately 8:40 a.m. on Jan. 22, an attempted burglary that occurred in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street sometime over the weekend was reported.

Vicious dog

• An aggressive black lab was reported running loose at the intersection of Southeast Third Street and South Market Boulevard just after 8:05 p.m. on Jan. 22.

Animal negligence/abuse

• Someone reportedly opened the passenger door of a vehicle and “dumped a cat” in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 22. The reporting party had the cat in their care when the call was made, advising they “(plan) to keep the cat but (don’t) want this to happen again.”

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 136 inmates, including 123 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 102 were reported male and 21 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
