Sirens: Cellphone thief caught in stolen shoes; woman brandishes gun, threatens neighbors; DUI arrest in Chehalis

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Christopher A. Szymusiak, 29, Kent, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree theft after allegedly stealing headphones and a cellphone mount from a store in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 5:18 p.m. July 27. During his arrest, police discovered that Szymusiak was allegedly wearing shoes he stole from a store in Chehalis.

Accidents

• A two-vehicle collision with no injuries was reported in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at about 5:17 p.m. July 28.

Agency assist

• Officers assisted Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputies during an incident involving a woman who allegedly brandished a firearm, made threats and damaged property belonging to her neighbors in the 3100 block of Ives Road at about 9:43 p.m. July 28. Police said the suspect surrendered without further incident.

Burglary

• Tires were reportedly stolen from the fenced area of a business on July 26. The theft was reported in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue at about 6:01 p.m. July 28.

Criminal trespass

• Don K. Gonzales, 37, Centralia, was issued a criminal citation for alleged second-degree criminal trespass in the 400 block of East Summa Street at about 9:25 p.m. July 27.

• Sarah M. Brown, 34, Tenino, was arrested for third-degree malicious mischief after allegedly starting a fire inside a LeMay dumpster near the Kresky Avenue alley and State Street at about 11:45 p.m. July 27. Police said Brown had previously been trespassed from a business in the 400 block of East Summa Street at about 10:12 p.m. after allegedly digging through dumpsters and climbing inside one for a nap. Police said Brown then went to the dumpsters behind the state Department of Licensing building and allegedly caused a fire that fully engulfed one of the dumpsters. Personnel from the Riverside Fire Authority reportedly found Brown inside a different dumpster nearby with a torch lighter in her possession. Police said the engulfed dumpster was extinguished and did not endanger any structures, brush or vehicles in the area.

Fraud

• An officer investigated possible bank fraud in the 1300 block of South Gold Street at about 12:50 p.m. July 28. Police said money may have been illegally transferred out of a bank account.



Liquor violation

• Joshua Blankenship, 37, Centralia, was arrested for allegedly having an open container of alcohol in public in the 900 block of West Main Street at about 11:22 a.m. July 28.

Theft

• An officer investigated a reported theft from a local business in the 1500 block of Lum Road at about 12:50 p.m. July 27. The case remains under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests and citations

• Jeffrey A. Zeller, 63, was issued a criminal citation and booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence near the corner of Southwest Cascade Avenue and Southwest Alfred Street at about 9:10 p.m. July 25.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of July 29, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 144 inmates, including 131 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 103 were reported male and 28 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of July 29, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 21 inmates. Of those, two were from Centralia, one was from Elma and nine were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there were three from the Lummi Nation, two from the Skokomish Tribe, and one each from the Quileute Nation, the Shoalwater Bay Tribe, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Chehalis Tribe.
