Sirens: Business window shattered; Medical episode results in crash; 'Spinning around and yelling' in a parking lot

Theft

• A vehicle was reported stolen from the 1000 block of H Street just before 9:25 a.m. on Jan. 12. The case is under investigation.

• A red Chevrolet Avalanche registered to a Centralia resident was used as a “getaway vehicle” for a theft of almost $2,000 in clothing from an outlet in the 1300 block of Lum Road just after 11:50 a.m. on Jan. 12. The case is under investigation.

 

Burglary

• A burglary of a shed was reported in the 300 block of West Chestnut Street just after 1:40 p.m. on Jan. 12.

• Officers responded to a burglary alarm at a business in the 400 block of South Tower Avenue at 2 a.m. on Jan. 14. When officers arrived, they found the business’s front glass door had been smashed out. Officers cleared the building and found no one inside. The business owner did not report anything of value missing. “A beverage cooler door was open and a drink may have been stolen, but it was not clear at the time of the investigation,” according to the Centralia Police Department. The business’s security cameras were not recording at the time of the burglary “due to a power outage earlier in the day causing a server issue.”

• A 47-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1000 block of B Street just after 2:10 a.m. on Jan. 14 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary for allegedly breaking in a window to gain access to a residence.

 

Vehicle accidents

• The driver of a pickup traveling westbound on First Street failed to stop at a red light and collided with a northbound vehicle at the intersection of First Street and Tower Avenue just after 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 12. Both drivers were transported to the hospital with injuries. “It is believed the driver of the pickup may have had a medical episode that caused him to pass out. There were not any signs of impairment observed at the time (an) officer arrived on scene,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A driver suffered a medical issue, veered off the road and struck a light pole at the intersection of West Sixth Street and North Pearl Street just after 10:25 a.m. on Jan. 13. No injuries were reported. It took crews about an hour to clear the roadway.



 

Criminal trespass

• A homeless man from Tacoma was trespassed from a gym in Centralia for “causing a disturbance” just before 5:40 p.m. on Jan. 13.

 

DUI

• At approximately 7:20 p.m. on Jan. 13, a 59-year-old Seattle man was arrested and booked into Lewis County Jail for DUI after he drove a Chevrolet pickup off the roadway at the intersection of Lum Road and Reynolds Avenue, over a small embankment, and into a private business parking lot where his pickup became stuck. Citizens reportedly saw the pickup driving on Lum Road at Haviland Street and going up onto the sidewalk and nearly striking some parked cars, according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Spinning

• Officers responded to a report of a “suspicious male spinning circles in the roadway” in the 400 block of South Silver Street just before 1:25 p.m. on Jan. 14. He agreed to move along when asked.

• A homeless man from California who was reportedly “spinning around and yelling” in the parking lot of a business in the 1500 block of Lum Road was trespassed from the business just after 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 14. He was trespassed from several other properties over the past couple of days.
