The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office on Friday arrested a 57-year-old Centralia woman accused of stealing $1.4 million from her employer over the course of a decade.
The sheriff’s office announced the arrest in a news release that included a photo of Anne M. Baker being led to the Lewis County Jail. She was booked into jail on Friday.
According to the sheriff’s office, Baker faces 221 counts of forgery, 174 counts of first-degree theft and 64 counts of second-degree theft.
“The arrest follows a nearly month-long investigation into alleged embezzlement from Schwiesow Construction Inc., also of Centralia,” the sheriff’s office stated in a news release. “The LCSO developed probable cause to believe Ms. Baker misappropriated funds from her former employer over the course of nearly a decade totaling more than $1.4 million. Ms. Baker was located at a hotel in Westport, Washington, and taken into custody with the assistance of the Westport Police Department, after investigating Deputy Mike Mohr received information she would be vacationing there with family. She was transported from Montesano back to Lewis County, where she is currently held without bail pending her court appearance. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere thanks to the Westport Police Department for their vital assistance in this case.”
Baker, formerly Garrett, is likely to make a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Friday.
