Sharis Restaurant Closing

Posted

The restaurant will be open until about 2 p.m. the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 16, because the lease has been lost, an employee confirmed on Friday. The employee declined to comment further but referred The Chronicle to the Sharis corporate office in Beaverton, Ore.

David Archer, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

The restaurant is located at 933 Harrison Ave., just east of Interstate 5 Exit 82. The building, built in 1982, sits on a parcel of land owned by Vahan M. Dinihanian, Jr. The property was purchased from Vintage Properties, LP, in February of 2003 for $1.9 million, according to the Lewis County Assessors Office Web site.

The property, just under an acre in size, holds an assessed value of $1.26 million for 2008.

Dinihanian, who owns Dinihanian Floral Products, Inc., in Beaverton, did not return a call for comment.

The hexagon-shaped, 24-hour diner was opened in January of 1983 with 60 employees. It was the 26th restaurant in the chain.

Sharis employs about 4,500 people at 98 locations in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Wyoming, and Nebraska. The company was founded in Hermiston, Ore. in 1978. The major shareholder is Circle Peak Capital, a private investment company based in New York. The company also owns two Sharis restaurants in Olympia.
