Semitruck full of food to arrive at Greater Chehalis Food Bank thanks to Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Those who find themselves near the Greater Chehalis Food Bank around 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, will see a full semitruck backing up to the loading dock with a load of food headed for local families.

The delivery is from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which worked with Greater Chehalis Food Bank Coordinator Linda Mullins and local church leaders to bring in a full truckload of food items just as the holiday season gets underway.

Ryan Clair is the church welfare and self reliance manager for the Western U.S. He worked with local church leaders and the Greater Chehalis Food Bank to coordinate the shipment from the church’s bishops’ storehouses of non-perishable food items.

“This delivery is a great blessing and a wonderful gift to receive,” Mullins said. “It’s so hard for so many this time of the year and will help a lot of individuals and families in our community.”

The timing matters, according to organizers.

Demand at local food banks usually climbs in November and December as families stretch budgets to cover heating bills, holiday meals and kids home from school.

A full semitruck load goes a long way toward keeping the shelves stocked through those busy weeks.

Volunteers will be on hand Thursday morning to help unload pallets and get everything put away. Community members are welcome to stop by.

The food bank is located at 750 SW 21st St. in Chehalis.

Anyone who wants to donate, volunteer or request help can contact the food bank at 360-330-1519.
