Seminary Hill Natural Area to host Earth Day work party this Saturday

Posted

Energetic folks of all ages are invited to the Seminary Hill Natural Area this Saturday, April 18, for the annual Earth Day work party.

This volunteer effort will offer opportunities to remove invasive ivy, maintain trails and help give some care to yearling saplings at the hill’s restoration area alongside the new accessible trail.

“Rain or shine, this will be a fun time to work alongside other good-natured folks to put a little polish on our forested hillside jewel,” said Brian Mittge, president of the Friends of the Seminary Hill Natural Area. “Come on out and get your hands dirty. You’ll have a blast. Or if not, at least you’ll get some free cookies.”

The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the Barner Drive entrance to the natural area just east of downtown Centralia. Credit for community service hours will be available for high school students in need before graduation.

Bring along gloves and sturdy shoes. Tools will be available, but you may also bring your own.

Free refreshments will be provided by Quiznos and the Friends of the Seminary Hill Natural Area, which hosts this work party as well as free nature events throughout the year.
