The Mossyrock boys basketball team is off to the district quarterfinals, as the Vikings used an excellent second-half to top Raymond-South Bend 70-55 in the first round of the 2B District 4 Tournament.

It was a tight game in the first half, as Mossyrock led 16-15 after one and 29-27 at halftime.

The Vikings had one of their best offensive quarters in the third, scoring 25 points to push their lead to 14 entering the fourth.

“We came out in the second half with intensity defensively, and it turned into instant offense,” Mossyrock interim coach Kelly Ross said. “We really focused on taking care of the ball in the half court and finding the open guy in rhythm … It allowed us to get good looks and we knocked them down.”

Ethan Johnson had one of the best games of his career, finishing with 27 points, while Easton Kolb scored 19. Mason Atter and Shaun Fry both added 11.

“We are getting better every day,” Ross said. “That is huge when you get to this stage.”

The Vikings (5-13) will look to continue to roll on Wednesday, when they take on Adna in a district quarterfinal in Castle Rock.
