The Onalaska Sports Foundation is preparing to host its second annual Raise the Axe dinner and auction on Oct. 24 at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds Community Building.
The evening promises something for everyone, featuring live music by Backwoods Coalition, a catered dinner by The Crowded Kitchen, a cash bar, a dessert frenzy and an exciting selection of auction items, according to a news release from organizers.
Guests can enjoy a night out with friends and neighbors while investing in the success of local students.
Founded in 2025 following the failure of the Onalaska School District levy, the nonprofit was created to help remove financial barriers for student-athletes, support Onalaska High School athletic programs, and build school spirit throughout the community.
During its first year, the foundation made a significant impact. It provided pay-to-play fee scholarships to every student who applied, reimbursed the school district $16,805 for low-income fee waivers, helped ensure all Onalaska High School teams had booster club support, and donated $2,500 to each of the school’s 13 athletic teams for a total of $32,500 to help fund camps, training and other activities not covered by school funding.
These efforts are made possible by the generosity of local businesses, donors and community members who believe in supporting student-athletes and keeping school spirit strong, the news release stated.
Tickets are available through the Onalaska Sports Foundation’s Facebook page or by emailing onalaskasportsfoundation@gmail.com.
The foundation is also seeking donations for this year’s fundraiser and auction. Businesses and individuals interested in contributing are encouraged to reach out.
Every donation helps the foundation continue its mission of making opportunities more accessible to all students, the release stated.
