Five local wrestlers left Raymond with titles and the three teams – Pe Ell, Adna and Toledo – finished top-10 in the team standings at the Doug Makaiwi Memorial tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans finished fourth overall with 113 points while Adna was sixth at 106 and Toledo placed 10th after totaling 64.5 points. Winlock brought nine wrestlers, but did not register a team point.

Pe Ell teammates Blake Burnett and Konnor Pilz met in the final at 157-pounds after both recorded pins in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Burnett wracked up a 22-7 technical fall victory in 4 minutes, 31 seconds. The Trojans also saw Ethen Noble pin his way to the win at 175, three of them coming within the first 70 seconds of the match.

Ethan Faulkner (138), Logan Oechsner (165) and Hunter Harris (190) all placed in the top-four.

Toledo 190-pounder Bomani Birdwell hit the 20-win mark on the season with three bonus point wins to secure first place. He pinned North Beach’s Tycen Ross at the buzzer in the first period to cap the day.

The Riverhawks had four wrestlers record top-six finishes, paced by Chris Eberle (215).

Adna’s Alex Richards notched three pins en route to the 113 title. His last two in the semis and finals came in the first period. Two Pirates took second in Cash Laufenberg (120) and Cohen Hartley (132) while Eli Wentzel (144) and Kooper Moon (150) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Wolves’ lightweight grapplers shine at River Ridge Rumble

Two of the best wrestlers for the Black Hills High School wrestling team racked up plenty of bonus points to aid the Wolves to a fifth place team finish at Saturday’s River Ridge Rumble. They piled up 120.5 points to place fifth in the team race.

Centralia was ninth at 89 points, Napavine (52.5) and Onalaska (42.5) placed 15th and 17th, respectively.

Porter Neklason (144) and Ammon Combs (175) each took fourth for the Wolves.

Napavine’s Peyton Hernandez followed in Rivera Jesus’ path, registering a pin and three consecutive tech falls to win the 132-pound bracket. The Tigers also saw Tommy Deebach (165) place fourth.

Centralia had a pair of runner-ups in Dasha Denetclaw (150) and Ronin Blair (215). Denetclaw needed a match–winning takedown in the semis to triumph 7-4 in SV-1. Blair had three falls before getting pinned in the finals.

Onalaska’s best finisher was Benito Escalera, third at 120 pounds.

Bearcats’ Homan, Land finish runner-up at Rumble in the Valley
