Sally Hickey Cox: 1931-2022

Posted

I have been subscribing to The Chronicle for years to see if my name was in the obituaries, and since it will be hard for me to read it when I am no longer there, I am writing my own.

Having been created in 1930 by Ed and Leona Hickey, and coming off the assembly line in 1931 to meet a sister, Helen, at Jackson Prairie, Washington, at the age of 6, I started grade school at Jackson Prairie School. In those days we had the luxury of (WPA) toilets and no running water. I graduated eight years later and went to W.F. West High School in Chehalis. I graduated in 1949, the same year the high school was destroyed by an earthquake. In 1950, after the great blizzard, I went to business college, and in a year, returned to Chehalis to work at Uhlmann Motors where I was introduced to the man Hollis (Red) Cox who would become my husband for over 50 years. We moved to Doty and had four children: Lisa (Leonard) Lusk, Brenda (Frank) Crist, Ed (Wendy) Cox and Neal (Laurie) Cox, as well as six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. I served on the Pe Ell School Board for two terms.

I had a good life, met, and helped lots of people at my jobs at Security State Bank, Wayne’s Photo (Qualex) and buying fir cones. I have run out of gas. It is time to park in the garage (Niche) with Red. Goodbye.

At my request there are to be no services.
