While most traditional car shows focus on having completed project cars, the Rust or Shine Car Show and Music Festival also welcomes rusty rides alongside polished paint and chrome, as long as the car can get to the show.
With annual turnouts of at least 400 cars or more, the 10th annual Rust or Shine is scheduled for this Sunday, Aug. 31, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Museum, located at 100 SW Veterans Way in Chehalis.
Along with hundreds of cars, Rust or Shine will also feature live music performances from local bands, local vendors and food trucks, a pin-up contest, raffles, hand-made trophies and more.
Veterans Memorial Museum Executive Director Chip Duncan organizes the show as a way to raise money for both the museum and Veterans Journey Forward, a local nonprofit which operates out of the museum.
Veterans Journey Forward was founded by U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jesse Lloyd with Duncan’s help, after Lloyd dealt with mental health issues himself in the service and watched a fellow Marine also struggle with mental health — which sadly ended in suicide.
Local veterans and their families can access peer-counseling services through Veterans Journey Forward along with help in getting various veterans benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
While the show itself is free to attend, registration for the tenth annual Rust or Shine Car Show and Music Festival is $20 per vehicle for those looking at trying to get a hand-made trophy.
Sponsors for this year’s show include Bob Holland Insurance, RB Engineering Inc., Attention to Detail LLC, Guild Mortgage Company and Pomps Tires Service Inc.
