The “Runway for Reading” event was held at The Bunyard Event Barn in Toledo on Saturday, March 21, raising $16,500 to support purchasing books for Toledo elementary students.
A highlight of the evening was a special on‑stage presentation from Farmers Insurance, Philbrook Insurance Agency (Toledo), awarding a $5,000 Farmers Insurance Community Engagement Grant to support the Riverhawks Read initiative.
Runway for Reading came to life through the talent, energy and vision of a small group of community members, including a standout contribution from Jude and Jo Jo Boutique and Barrel and Babes, whose creativity and styling expertise elevated the entire show.
Their work brought the runway to life with personality, confidence and a true celebration of fashion inspired by the joy of reading.
A dessert dash and raffle baskets were also part of the event.
“Launching a brand‑new event is always a leap of faith, but our community showed up,” organizers shared. “From our sponsors, people who attended and our volunteers, this event became something truly special.”
Funds raised will be used to purchase durable, high‑quality books for elementary students, ensuring every child has access to stories that inspire curiosity, confidence and a lifelong love of reading.
