The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect connected to a robbery that occurred at a bank in the Grand Mound area in 2021.

Deputies arrested the suspect, a 30-year-old Rochester man, during a traffic stop in the Yelm area on Saturday, April 23, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office did not identify the man.

“Deputies did an outstanding job identifying this subject who wasn’t cooperative, however I think the suspect forgot he had his name tattooed on his hand,” the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post about the arrest.

The suspect was booked into the Thurston County Jail on a charge of first-degree robbery.

The sheriff’s office sent out a news release in December 2021 asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect, who was accused of passing a note “demanding cash ‘or else’” to a bank teller at a bank in the 19700 block of Southwest Old Highway 99 in Rochester at approximately 2 p.m. on Aug. 27. The suspect reportedly fled the bank on foot and remained out of custody until he was arrested on Saturday.
