Layna Demers returned to the circle, but her biggest impact came at the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning, lifting a critical two-run home run that gave the Warriors a 5-4 victory over Elm at home on Wednesday night.

Rochester (10-2, 5-0 Evergreen) was nursing a 3-2 lead before Demers’ blast. She immediately faced a bases-loaded situation with no outs in the seventh and after allowing a two-run single, retired the next three batters in a row to escape with a win.

The Warriors scored a run in the first, third and fourth inning. McKenna Vassar finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a triple while Hailey Boyd and Charlie Culp each had a hit and an RBI. Demers notched 10 strikeouts in the circle.

Friday will be a non-league matchup between Rochester and Pe Ell/Willapa Valley in Rochester.
