The last time the Rochester soccer team took the field, the Warriors were beaten in penalty kicks on the road in Hoquiam.
The Warriors wanted to put that loss behind them on Monday, and they did so in a big way, defeating Ilwaco 10-0.
“The team came out much more focused this game than on Saturday,” Rochester coach Matt Ashton said. “I liked what I saw with the movement of the ball. And, obviously, the goal scoring.”
Brendan Pontes scored in the 15th and 16th minute to quickly get a brace, while Edwin Martinez and Justin Gohez added goals later in the first half.
Samuel Alvaraz and Aiden Villanueva added two goals early in the second half, and Jaime Rodriguez Meraz made it 7-0 with a goal in the 52nd minute.
A late three-goal flurry got the Warriors into double-digits, as Eduardo Herrera, Brandon Reyes-Ibarra, and Tyler Billings scored in a four-minute span.
The Warriors (8-4, 8-3 1A Evergreen) will try to avenge their loss to Hoquiam when they host the Grizzlies on Wednesday.
