Road closures coming to Centralia’s South Yew, South streets for construction this week

Posted

Construction is scheduled to begin on South Yew Street and South Street this week. The City of Centralia Public Works Department will be installing utilities, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, street lighting and roadway paving as part of this project.

In an effort to minimize the impact on area residents and improve the safety of construction workers, the city will be closing the work area to through traffic for the duration of the project.

South Yew Street will be closed south of Art Lehman Drive, and South Street will be closed from South Yew Street to Woodland Avenue. A full closure of the railroad crossing on South Street will take place in September in order to complete the installation of sanitary sewer under the railroad tracks.

Work is currently scheduled to continue through spring 2026, according to a city public works news release. Residents of the area will have access to and from their residences at all times. Emergency services, postal delivery, and garbage pickup will not be impacted.

School bus routes will be modified during the full closure of the railroad track crossing. City staff and Midway Underground will work with area residents and businesses to minimize impacts during construction.
