The Riverside Fire Authority (RFA) responded to a local commercial structure fire involving an industrial hopper shortly before noon Friday, Aug. 15.
The fire was stopped before it could spread.
According to a news release from the fire authority, the incident occurred in the 2000 block of Industrial Drive in Centralia. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters noticed smoke coming from the hopper, which contained a manufacturing product.
The fire was suppressed and contained to the unit of origin thanks to RFA Ladder 2 and the use of its “master stream.” No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
According to the release, the cause of the fire is undetermined but “likely related to equipment malfunction.” The boiler will be out of service until repairs are made.
The fire suppression systems associated with the business were noted to be in place and functional.
The RFA reported mutual aid assistance from the Chehalis Fire Department, Lewis County Fire District 6 and West Thurston Regional Fire Authority. All RFA resources were returned to service at about 2:03 p.m.
