The offenses were clicking for the Toledo and Rainier baseball teams on Friday in Rainier, where the Riverhawks outlasted the Mountaineers 17-16 in eight innings.
The runs came fast and furious from the first inning, when Toledo opened the game with two runs in the top half.
Rainier answered back with three in the bottom half, and when the Riverhawks added two more in the second, the Mountaineers answered back with five in the bottom of the second.
Heading into the sixth, Rainier was holding on to a 9-8 lead, but Toledo scored eight runs in the inning to take the lead at 16-9.
Once again, the Mountaineers responded with a big inning of their own, as they plated seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 16.
Brady Weeks’ RBI single in the top of the eighth went on to stand as the game-winning hit for Toledo.
Weeks finished 3 for 5 at the plate with two RBIs, while Carson Boad and Ryker Sorensen also drove in two runs apiece.
Nico Acosta, Rohan Feigenbaum, and Eli Weeks also drove in runs in the victory.
Yazama Gurnsey collected four hits in six at-bats for Rainier, and he drove in two runs, while Peyton Sheaffer went 3 for 5 with five RBIs. Hunter Howell and Dayton Gardner added two hits each, including three doubles combined, and drove in two runs apiece.
Toledo (9-3, 8-2 C2BL) will host Kalama on Saturday, and Rainier (3-9, 3-9 C2BL) will head to Winlock on Monday.
