Riverhawks’ Balance Leads to Win Over Rival Cardinals

Posted

A 14-1 start was enough to help the Toledo boys basketball team defeat Winlock on the road Tuesday night, all the way to a 59-34 win over its rivals in league play.

The Riverhawks outscored the Cardinals in every quarter save for the fourth, and had three players score in double figures in Kaven Winters (15), Conner Olmstead (11), and Cooper Fallon (12).

Olmstead also hauled in 10 boards and had four big blocks.

“My guys did a good job against their zone of just making the extra pass,” Riverhawks coach Grady Fallon said. “Making that extra pass to get somebody a more open shot or a closer shot was pretty cool to see.

It was a relief to not play frustrated.”

On the other end, the Cardinals just couldn’t quite overcome a tough 1-point opening quarter, but were led by Payton Sickles 15 points.

“It was a rough start offensively tonight and unfortunately it stayed that way all game,” Cards coach Cole Doughty said. “It was like there was a lid on the basket for us all game.”

The Riverhawks take on Napavine next at home this Thursday while Winlock heads to Adna for more league play.
