Residents displaced, 4 pets dead after Saturday house fires in Hillsboro, Vancouver

Firefighters in Vancouver and Hillsboro quenched two separate house fires around 9 p.m. on Saturday evening. Occupants of the homes survived with minimal injuries, firefighters said, but the blazes killed at least four pets.

Hillsboro firefighters responded to reports of a home on fire at the 2200 block of Northeast Sunrise Lane, near the Hillsboro airport, on Saturday evening and found two residents outside of the home. The first engine on scene found a “significant amount of fire,” and as more crews arrived a live electrical wire connecting to the house fell in the street and had to be disabled by the electric company, Hillsboro Fire and Rescue said in a statement.

Crews extinguished the fire, which is still under investigation. One of the residents was taken to the hospital with injuries that authorities do not believe are life threatening and both residents have been displaced from their home due to the severity of the fire. Six pets lived in the house, firefighters said — they only found four, none of which survived.

Around the same time, firefighters in Vancouver found “heavy fire conditions” at a home on the 4300 block of Southeast 167th Lane. More than two dozen firefighters responded to the blaze and got the fire under control within 20 minutes, the Vancouver Fire Department said. People who lived in the house were displaced by the fire, the agency said, but nobody was hurt.
