Tickets are now on sale as registration is open for this year’s Esther Borte Memorial Walk in the Park, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at Toledo’s Kemp Olson Memorial Park and RV Campground.

Toledo Mayor Cherie Devore announced registration was open during the regular Toledo City Council meeting on Monday, Aug. 17.

A lifelong Toledo resident who died in 2016, Borte began organizing the Walk in the Park to raise money for improvements and maintenance at Kemp Olson Memorial Park. She attended the inaugural walk just three months prior to her death at the age of 90.

“Esther Borte loved this park, and she loved the people in it. The Walk in the Park began as a simple idea — a quiet morning stroll around the city park roadway in her memory — and has grown into an annual gathering of neighbors, families and friends,” the event website stated. “The walk itself is unhurried and reflective. There is no race clock and no finish-line ribbon.”

Registration is free for children 12 and under and $20 for adults, or $30 to both register and get an event shirt. Each registrant will get five raffle tickets as well. Proceeds go to support further improvements and future maintenance at Kemp Olson Memorial Park.

Following the walk, a number of raffles, including one for a quilt stitched together by Borte, will be held, and Borte’s family and friends will speak.

A number of vendors will have a small market set up in the park as well after the walk, along with music playing.

Registration can be completed online anytime before the walk, or in-person on the day of at the park starting at 9 a.m., with the walk itself starting at 9:30 a.m. To register online, visit https://zizized.com/.

Raffle drawings are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m., and along with local craft vendors, vendors selling cotton candy, kettlecorn, fruit jams and infused cooking oils will be set up. Vendor registration is still open at https://tinyurl.com/4z8ezhnp.
