Rainier falls to Kalama twice in doubleheader

The Rainier baseball team couldn’t get the bats going on Monday, as the Mountaineers fell twice to Kalama, 11-1 and 7-2, in a C2BL doubleheader.

The Chinooks dominated Game 1, taking a 10-0 lead through three and run-ruling the Mountaineers (2-2, 2-2 C2BL) in five. Ryder Cruse was a bright spot at the plate for Rainier in the first matchup, going 2 for 2 at the dish with a double and an RBI.

Hunter Howell did a better job of keeping the Kalama bats at bay in Game 2, but the Mountaineers couldn’t get going offensively and the Chinooks pulled away late with four in the sixth inning en route to a 7-2 win.

Howell went five and two-thirds on the hill, allowing 10 hits and six runs (three earned) while striking out 12 and walking none.

Kaymen Larman and Dayton Gardner both went 2-3 at the plate, and Larman and Peyton Sheaffer both drove in a run.

Rainier is back in action on Wednesday at Mossyrock for a non-league contest.
