Rainier allows double digit walks, falls to Eatonville

Despite snaring an early multi-run lead, the Mountaineers couldn’t make it stick in a 10-6 non-league setback against the Cruisers on Wednesday night on the road.

Fifteen walks doomed Rainier (5-5) as it allowed five runs in the bottom of the third to trail for good. Eatonville added two more in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth. In that third inning, three of the runs scored were via walks.

The Mountaineers attempted a rally with an RBI triple off the bat of Brooklynn Swenson and another run on an error. They had the tying run on deck, but a ground out sealed the win for the Cruisers. Rainier’s three runs in the top of the first came on two errors and an Ryleigh Cruse RBI single.

Swenson and Cruse each registered two hits for the Mountaineers, who will face Wahkiakum on Thursday in a return to league play.
