PWV jumps on top early, cruises to win over Evergreen

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley got the start it wanted.

Lucas Lusk capped the Titans’ first drive of the game against Evergreen with a 19-yard touchdown run, giving them an early lead.

“You always hope you can have a good first drive, and we certainly did,” PWV coach John Peterson said. “We were able to get to the edge and get outside.”

Things got even better just two plays into Evergreen’s first drive, when Lusk picked up a fumble and returned it 22 yards to put PWV up two scores early. The Titans never looked back, rolling to a 41-8 victory over the Wolverines.

Blane King scored near the end of the first quarter to make it 21-0, Lusk and King both added another rushing touchdown in the second, and Brody Ritzman hit Lusk for a 48-yard passing touchdown to make it 41-0 PWV at the break.

“The kids really came out ready to play,” PWV coach John Peterson said. “They did a good job, they have a huge team, but we really got into them.”

The Titans got after it defensively as well. King and Dylan Andrews both came down with interceptions, and Eddie Clements led the team with six tackles.

“We did a really good job,” Peterson said. “We got a lot of hats to the ball, and we’re happy to win.”

PWV (1-0) will welcome Blaine to Pe Ell for a non-league matchup next Friday, Sept. 12.
