PWV goes airbound, upends Blaine to move to 2-0

As much as John Peterson wants to play in a phone booth, Blaine wasn’t giving the Pe Ell/Willapa Valley football team much room to run the ball. So the Titans went to the air and found success.

Brody Ritzman completed seven passes and the first two touchdowns were throws to push PWV past the Borderites 27-13 on a Saturday afternoon matinee in Pe Ell. Ritzman hit Cody Mican for a 20-yard score and Blane King found the end zone on a 50-yard toss.

“We established ourselves,” Peterson said. “I thought we made some good decisions. Really proud of my guys.”

Spud Swogger capped a three-score second quarter with a 5-yard plunge. Ritzman made it a four-score lead with a 1-yard touchdown in the third period. Lucas Lusk was the leading rusher for PWV with 81 yards.

Defensively, King had seven tackles while Lusk recorded a fumble recovery and a sack. PWV will trek to Toledo to take on the Riverhawks in a battle of 2-0 teams next week.

“They are a juggernaut,” Peterson said of Toledo. “They’re a great team and they do things fundamentally well. We are going to have our hands full.”
