Hundreds of Providence Swedish caregivers in South Puget Sound enjoyed Kona Shaved Ice Tuesday in Centralia and Wednesday at St. Peter Hospital thanks to a continued sponsorship by I-5 Cars.
The events were part of Caregiver Appreciation Week.
“We are thankful for the partnership from I-5 Cars to help recognize our staff,” said Providence Swedish South Puget Sound Chief Executive Darin Goss.
I-5 Cars Executive Vice President Robert Pehl came to Providence four years ago during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic wanting to recognize the dedication of health care workers in the community. It started with cookies for staff in 2020 and then ice cream in 2021. Last year’s shaved ice treats were so popular, they returned this year.
“We are so excited for the opportunity to partner with Providence and are so thankful for them and their medical team’s service to our community,” Pehl said.
The treats were part of a week-long celebration of all caregivers and volunteers. Each day included special dress-up days including supporting their favorite sports team, crazy socks, wild hair and more. There were also specialty-themed menus in the cafeterias each day of the week and multiple visits from canine volunteers and their owners to help bring additional smiles.
During shift change in the early morning and at night, hospital leaders provided coffee, doughnuts and healthy snacks and spiritual care staff have been blessing the hands of all staff in gratitude of their healing touch.
“Our caregivers have choices on where they work and we remain grateful they have chosen to work at Providence Swedish,” Goss said. “It’s important to have a little fun and recognize all they do. Partnerships like I-5 Cars help us make this happen.”
