A Portland man died in a skiing accident on Mt. Bachelor on Monday, Deschutes County Sheriff’s officials said.
Nigel Barry Young, 65, crashed around 2:20 p.m. as he skied with a group of three friends on the Wanoga Way Ski Trail.
Sheriff’s deputies, Bend Fire & Rescue and Airlink converged on the mountain to aid Young, but when they arrived he wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse, officials said. He was pronounced dead shortly before 3 p.m. despite attempts to revive him.
Officials said Young was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but that “deputies believe his injuries were not survivable.”
The incident is under investigation.
