Portland Police
The Portland City Council voted four to zero to approve the city auditor's proposed police reforms. They are intended to strengthen oversight of the Portland Police Bureau.
The police union president and community members had asked the council to hold off on voting.
Some of the changes will affect civilian investigations of police misconduct, through the auditor's Independent Police Review Division.
Another change ensures that internal investigations of alleged police misconduct are completed within 180 days.
Commissioner Amanda Fritz was out sick and unable to vote.
