The Port of Centralia commissioners unanimously approved voiding 13 warrants for routine port expenses originally approved in March during the commissioners’ regular meeting on Wednesday, May 7.
Port of Centralia Executive Director Kyle Heaton explained the checks for the warrants, issued on March 5, got lost in the mail.
“The reason for this, we mailed (checks) as always. We received several vendors who didn’t receive checks. We gave it another week. We checked. We went through, voided checks and reissued,” Heaton said. “These are previously approved expenses. Not sure what happened with the mail system this time. This is a rare occurrence. We haven’t had this happen before.”
The warrants that were voided and check amounts included:
• Lewis Consulting, $4,000
• Barghausen Consulting Engineers, $6,049.05
• Bicoastal Media, $700
• Crystal Springs, $34.57
• Elan Financial Services, $990.16
• Lincoln Creek Lumber, $176.24
• Quill, $43.27
• Schmidt Architects, PC, $184.43
• Van Ness Feldman, LLP, $20,194
• Washington Public Ports Association, $2,574
• Wilcox & Flegel, $186.56
• Comcast, $795.68
• Lewis County Public Utilities District, $591.80
Port of Centralia Commissioner Julie Shaffley explained why two warrants were not included in the warrants that were voided.
“I asked … why there was a gap there, and she said those two had been hand-delivered, to Larry Fagerness, and the other was for utilities. That’s why there was a gap. They did not get in the mail,” Shaffley said.
