Police seek Toyota driver in fatal hit-and-run of Seattle cyclist

Seattle police are seeking a vehicle they believe is connected to the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist.

The 38-year-old was riding across Beacon Avenue South early Dec. 14, when a southbound vehicle hit the cyclist at the intersection with South Stevens Street. The cyclist died at the scene, and the driver fled.

The King County medical examiner's office identified the cyclist as Sergio Alberto Rodriguez, of Seattle. Rodriguez, who went by Allie, died of blunt force injuries.

Detectives announced Tuesday they believe the suspect was driving a white Toyota Camry manufactured between 1997 and 1999, with gold trim details. The car sustained windshield, hood and right headlight damage, according to a police blotter post.

It was the first death of a cyclist in Seattle since 2023. Mourners shut down the intersection for a vigil hours after the crash, according to Seattle Bike Blog.

Allie was a beloved community member, and an avid biker and advocate for safer transit and streets in Seattle," City Councilmember Eddie Lin said in a statement earlier this month. "My sincerest condolences to their family and friends. I know words of condolence are hollow if we don’t take action to prevent the next tragedy.

Those with information were encouraged to call the Traffic Collision Investigative Squad at 206-684-8923.
