Salem police say 11 people were taken to the hospital Sunday night following reports of “multiple stabbing victims” at a men’s homeless shelter.
Police received reports of the stabbings around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, from the Union Gospel Mission shelter on the 700 block of Commercial Street N.E. That’s just down the street from the Salem Police Department headquarters, The Statesman Journal reported.
First responders took the 11 victims, who had “varying types of injuries,” to Salem Health hospitals for treatment, police said. Officers arrested a man in connection to the stabbings and detectives continued to investigate the incident on Sunday night, the news release said.
Public information officer Angela Hedrick said she expected to release more information on Monday morning.
