Police arrest 3 at Portland ICE facility, say demonstrators damaged and vandalized building

Portland police arrested three people Saturday night at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland after they say protesters vandalized the facility, damaged its gate and threw rocks at local officers.

A few hundred people gathered at the South Waterfront facility Saturday evening following a day of peaceful “No Kings” rallies across the city in protest of President Donald Trump.

Protesters occupied the ICE facility’s driveway and damaged the building’s rolling gate several times over the course of the evening, Portland police said.

At one point, local officers pushed protesters down the street, away from the building, while federal agents attempted emergency repairs to the gate. Protesters threw “large rocks” at the Portland police officers and Oregon State Police troopers trying to clear the area, the Portland Police Bureau said in a news release.

Just after 10 p.m., Portland police declared the gathering an illegal assembly and told people to go home or face arrests after officers said they had witnessed assault and criminal mischief. The crowd dwindled to just a few dozen protesters after that.

The scene outside of the ICE building on Saturday was muted for most of the evening in comparison to clashes at the facility after past “No Kings” rallies. Last June, Portland police declared a riot at the facility. Federal agents deployed tear gas against anti-ICE protesters following marches in both June and October.

Portland police arrested Isiah Lee, 26, on suspicion of criminal mischief and trespass on Saturday evening after they say Lee climbed onto the lower roof of the ICE facility around 9 p.m. and began to vandalize the building.

Portland police also arrested 21-year-old Isaias Laguna on suspicion of criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and trespass and cited 37-year-old Robert Stoms on suspicion of criminal mischief, police said.

Police have arrested 89 people during protests at the ICE facility since last June, they said.
