Police: Armed resident confronts burglar in Cowlitz County

A man suspected of burglarizing an Old West Side home was in custody as of Friday afternoon.

Cowlitz County Superior Court Judge Patricia Fassett appointed a public defender to represent Adin C.R. Daily, 27, on Thursday, after his arrest the day before.

According to Longview Police Capt. Braden McNew, at about 8:56 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a burglary taking place at a 20th Avenue home.

A caller reported that a burglar, later identified as Daily, was confronted by an armed resident after allegedly breaking into their home, so Daily fled on foot toward Lower Columbia College.

After obtaining a description of the suspect — who was reportedly carrying stolen property — police searched the area, which included using police dogs, and located Daily in the 1600 block of 21st Avenue.

McNew said police also found evidence, including an abandoned red backpack and a black hooded jacket. After patting down Daily, officers report finding meth.

Daily was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary and possession of a controlled substance. A Longview police report lists him as a transient.

His next court hearing is set for April 3, and his bail is set at $10,000.
