Pitching keeps Tumwater in first place in league race

Ignited by the arms of Sarah Stevens and Ella Ferguson, the Thunderbirds kept their perfect Evergreen Conference record intact with a 2-0 triumph over Black Hills on Wednesday night at home.

Now, Tumwater (10-2, 6-0 EvCo) will try and keep the perfect mark alive when it faces W.F. West in a league tussle on Monday in Chehalis. A win gives the T-Birds a two-game cushion in the standings.

Stevens and Ferguson teamed to limit the Wolves (4-5, 1-5) at the plate. The combined to allow two hits in the circle and 14 strikeouts. The only hits allowed came in the top of the second inning, then Stevens mowed down the next three batters.

Avery Sugg provided the only scoring on the night in the third. After a pair of walks, Sugg roped a two-run double and that was all the Thunderbirds needed. Chloe Foos also notched a double while Black Hills’ Ella Goheen struck out eight in the circle.
