The Adna girls basketball team came away with a quality win in Skagit County on Friday, beating defending 1B state champs Neah Bay 60-56 on the second day of the Mount Vernon Holiday Tournament.

“It was a district atmosphere, with a huge crowd,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said.

The Pirates trailed by seven at halftime, after only mustering eight points in the second quarter, but rattled off 18 in the third and 20 in the fourth to pull away with the win.

Gaby Guard led the late charge, scoring 17 of her 20 points in the second half. Karsyn Freeman poured in 25 points to lead all scorers.

Bailey Chapman only scored six points, but hauled in 10 rebounds to lead the way inside.

“She did an excellent job on their big girl,” Banish said. “That was the story of the game, was her defense … She changed the game with her presence inside.”

The Pirates will get one more game in Mount Vernon, taking on Crosspoint on Saturday evening.
