Pirates top Tigers in four for first league win

Adna volleyball is on the board.

The Pirates came away with their first league win of the season on Thursday, topping Napavine on the road 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-18.

McKenna Torrey led the way with 12 kills, 11 digs, and a block, and Alyssa Carroll also impressed with 12 digs, nine kills, two aces, and two blocks.

Taylor Johnson dished out 26 assists to go along with 13 digs and two aces, and Presley Strodemier finished with seven digs and three aces.

Madison Otten added four kills, including the final kill of the game, and two blocks, Shelby Eixenberger logged nine digs, and Hadleigh Gerard collected four.

Dotson commended Gerard and Torrey’s passing throughout the game, and she also praised how hard the team played.

The Pirates (3-10, 1-5 C2BL) are now one game back of Morton-White Pass and Napavine in the league standings.

Kendall Kelly had four block kills and three aces for the Tigers, while Lilly Grabianowski added 14 digs.

Kennedy Purvis collected 12 digs and eight kills, Ava Ondong tallied eight kills, Anna Guenther logged seven digs, and Mya Garrett added four kills.

Napavine had the chance to clinch a district playoff berth with a win tonight, but now they could be left needing help to get in.

“I’m thankful we’re in this position,” Napavine coach Monica Dailey said. “But it’s frustrating, because I knew we could do this and solidify our spot. I always try to reiterate that we have to take care of our business and make our luck, and we can't be dependent on somebody else.”

Two of those teams will grab the league’s final playoff spots, while one will be left out. Adna now has the tiebreaker over Napavine, but MWP has the tiebreaker over Adna thanks to its win over the Pirates earlier in the season.

If the three teams finish with the same record, a three-team playoff will take place.

Adna will host Winlock on Monday, while Napavine (3-11, 2-4 C2BL) will host Onalaska at the same time.
