Pirates Sweep Rainier in Final Regular Season Game

Earning itself the third-seed in the Central 2B League outright, the Adna volleyball team defeated Rainier on the road Wednesday in straight-sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-15.

It was another well-rounded effort by the Pirates against the fifth-place Mountaineers Wednesday night, as coach Wendie Dotson praised her setters for giving a variety of hitters a shot at kills.

“I thought we passed really well tonight and we were able to run some combinations at the net because of it,” Dotson said. “Our setters did a good job of moving the ball at the net tonight. We focused on serving aggressively to their receivers, the girls did a good job of hitting their spots.”

Gaby Guard had four kills, 12 digs, and 20 assists in three sets, and fellow setter Brooklyn Loose added 13 assists, five aces, five kills, and six digs.

At the net Kendall Humphrey had a team-high 19 kills to go along with 15 digs and an ace, and Danika Hallom had nine kills and nine digs.

“Rainier did a good job defending the net and digging our hits tonight and covered the court well and kept the ball in play,” Dotson said. “Our girls did a good job of hitting different angles.”

Natalie Humphrey added eight digs and two aces, and Parker Feist had 11 digs and four aces.

The Pirates will head to Pacific League runner-up Forks for the district tournament on Saturday, while Rainier heads to the Kalama pod as the fifth-seed.
