The Adna volleyball team improved to 14-0 on the season with a 25-19, 25-13, 25-23 sweep of Winlock on Monday in a C2BL matchup.

The Cardinals came to play, holding their own against the Pirates, but Adna was able to come out on top despite playing out of system often.

Gaby Guard had 17 assists, 15 digs and a pair of aces, Karsyn Freeman added 13 kills, seven digs and three aces, and Danika Hallom tallied 10 kills, six digs and an ace.

Kendall Humphrey added eight kills, three digs, three blocks and two aces, while Charissa Schierman recorded 15 assists and two blocks. Jaylee Humphrey also added 10 digs.

While the Cardinals were on the wrong end of the sweep, coach Terri Dalsted said she was proud of the way they competed against a tough opponent, especially in the first and third set.

“I was really proud of that,” Dalsted said.

Kindy Kelly led the offense with 11 kills while Madison Rohman added five. Charlee Connelly kept the ball in the air defensively with 25 digs, and Jasmine Shepherd went 11 for 12 from the service line.

Adna will have a chance to clinch the top spot at the district tournament on Wednesday at home against 7-1 Rainier. As the top seed, the Pirates would host half of the first- and second-round games, with the other half taking place at Raymond, the Pacific league winner.

Winlock is still in a battle for the seventh and final district spot. At 2-6 in league play, they are one game back of Kalama and Onalaska, but they’ll have a chance to clinch a spot on Wednesday, when they host Kalama.
