Spurred by the return of all-league fullback Beau Miller, the Adna High School football team recorded a 46-6 beatdown of Pe Ell/Willapa Valley on Friday night to usher in a new C2BL West slate.
Miller saw the field for the first time in two weeks. He shook off some rust and ended with a team-best 105 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter. Landen Cline was the star with three scores from 47, 8 and 18 yards out.
“We made better decisions,” Adna head coach Aaron Cochran said of the ground game. “I’m excited to have (Beau) back.”
Up by a score after the opening 12 minutes, the Pirates (4-1, 1-0 C2BL West) poured it on with 32 points over the next two frames that had four rushing TDs and the lone passing connection of Trevin Salme to Grayson Humphrey for six.
Still, a theme that Cochran has noticed is missed tackles for his defense. It continued again on Friday night.
“The standard is pretty high and I think we’re going against good RBs, they’re gonna force some missed tackles,” Cochran said. “You get an opportunity you got to take it. It is not for lack of trying.”
PWV (1-4, 0-1) has dropped four in a row since its season opener. Brody Magruder registered the only touchdown from 1 yard out. Kaden Blaine had 24 rushing yards to lead the Titans offense.
“That’s a really, really good football team … Hats off to them,” PWV head coach John Peterson said. “We’ll continue to play hard, and we’ll see what happens.”
Adna will hit the road next week to take on undefeated Forks while PWV tangles with Napavine at home in Week 6.
