Pirates lose to Lummi up north

The Adna boys basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped at the hands of 1B Lummi Nation on Friday in Skagit County, losing 57-44 on the second day of the Mount Vernon Holiday Tournament.

“That’s a 1B team that will play on Saturday in the Spokane Arena,” Adna coach Luke Salme said of the Blackhawks.

Grayson Humphrey and Lane Johnson both scored 12 points to share the team lead for the Pirates (8-2, 3-1 C2BL), while Trevin Salme added 11.

The Pirates drilled five 3-pointers in the first half, including three in an 18-point first quarter, but only managed two buckets from long range in the final 16 minutes, and settled in single-digits in each of the latter three periods.

“We played great for a quarter and a half, and then hurt ourselves with a bunch of turnovers,” Luke Salme said. “Then when we shoot that poorly, it’s gonna be tough.”

The Pirates will get one more game in Mount Vernon, on Saturday afternoon.
