Pirates Bounce Back at Kalama

Coming off back-to-back losses to top-10 league opponents, the 2B No. 7 Adna boys basketball team got back in the win column on the road, beating Kalama 63-30 in Cowlitz County.

“We were pretty efficient in the first half at both ends,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “That was good to see, because that hasn’t been the case for us very often on the road so far.”

The Pirates blitzed the Chinooks with 22 points in the first half, and led 37-18 at halftime. By the time the third quarter was over, the guests had their lead up to 20, and Adna finished the game strong with a 15-3 run in the final eight minutes.

“This was a good bounce back for us, and some of our backups got lots of varsity minutes, which is awesome,” Salme said.

Seven separate Pirates scored Thursday, led by Braeden Salme, who hit four 3-pointers in the first half and finished with a game-high 21 points. Clayton Loose added 12 points, and Asher Guerrero put in eight, moving into the starting lineup for the night.

Adna will get a rare weekend league matchup Saturday, going to Onalaska for an afternoon showdown.
