Tallying eight hits and putting a dozen runs on the board, the Adna baseball team defeated Rainier at home Wednesday afternoon in five innings, 12-2.
The Pirates also got a strong day on the mound from Danner Hoinowski, who pitched a shortened complete game, throwing all five innings and allowing just two earned runs on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
“It was a good win,” Pirates coach Thad Nelson said. “We’ve cleaned up some things on defense and it was a fairly clean game. Danner did a great job of throwing strikes and making them put the ball in the play.”
Behind Hoinowski the Pirates made just one error, and at the plate Nate Scheuber went 1 for 2 with two runs and three RBIs, and Tristan Percival went 1 for 1 with a bases-clearing 3-RBI triple.
Rainier was led at the plate by John Kenney’s 2 for 3 performance with a triple.
The Pirates and Mountaineers will meet again at Rainier Thursday at 4 p.m.
