Pirates Blank Cardinals, Advance to District Semis

In a bounce back performance after a disappointing loss to Napavine in its season finale, the Adna girls soccer team defeated Winlock in the first round of the 2B District 4 playoffs, 9-0, Tuesday night at home.

The win catapults the Pirates into a semifinal matchup against Onalaska Thursday at Kalama High School.

“Tonight we got back to ourselves,” Pirates coach Patrick Richardson said. “Things started out a little slow for the first short stretch but we finally got things flowing well.”

Sophie Hagseth had a hat trick, scoring in the eighth, 68th, and 74th minutes, and Destiny Roller added a brace with goals in the 31st and 60th minutes. Other goals came from Bailey Naillon, Alainna Roller, Abby McAuley, and Karlee VonMoos.

The Pirates outshot the Cardinals, 37-0, in the win.

“It was nice to get some good ball movement from our girls that we had been lacking recently,” Richardson said. “We’re looking for a lot of different angles and spaces to utilize. It’s always interesting rolling into a game that is a must-win. Today I saw what I expected after a good practice and preparation for this game.”

The Pirates take on the Loggers in the first game at Kalama High School at 6 p.m., followed by the other semifinal, Napavine and the host Chinooks.
