Pirate Boys, Rainier Girls Take Second at 2BCL Championships

2BCL: Adna Boys Scored 97 Points and Rainier Girls Notched 128 to Each Finish a Distant Second Behind Kalama Boys and Girls Friday

Adna finished second as a team in the boys Central 2B League Championships on Friday in Kalama and Rainier finished second in the girls meet in Kalama on Friday.

The Pirates posted 97 points, a distant second behind meet-winner Kalama with 123. Toledo was third with 96.5 points, Rainier was fourth with 81, Onalaska was fifth 81. Morton-White Pass finished seventh with 38 points, Napavine was eighth with 31, and Winlock came tenth with 13.

On the girls side, Rainier was second with 128 points, closer to meet-winner Kalama’s 145. Adna was fourth with 59 points, MWP was seventh with 42 points, Napavine claimed 35 points and placed eighth, Toledo was ninth with 34 points, Winlock was tenth with six points and Onalaska was 11th with five points.

State junior discus record-holder Jeremiah Nubbe unsurprisingly won the discus, finishing with a 184-foot, 11-inch throw, giving him a win by nearly 20 feet. He also won the shot put with a personal-best 55-06.5 toss. He too finished third in the javelin at 145-02.

Zach Berg won the 400-meter sprint for the second-place Pirates, finishing in a time of 53.42, a PR. He was also second in the other two sprints, posting times of 11.51 in the 100 and 23.46 in the 200. Napavine’s Lucas Dahl won both the short sprints, posting times of 11.51 and 23.46 in the 200. Dahl also won the long jump with a personal-best leap of 20-09.

Adna’s Willis Ames set a PR in the 100 hurdles, posting a time of 15.75. He also won the 300 hurdles in 43.41.

The Pirate 4x400 relay team took top honors, as well. Made up of Lane Johnson, Jacob Stajduhar, Jordan Stout and anchored by Jackson Humphery, the relay posted a 3:48.78 time and were winners by three seconds over the quartet of Max Lowe, Asher Sympson, David Martinez and Garret Clevenger.

Toledo’s Nicholas Marty won the 1600 with a PR, a time of 4:29.65. He also took the 3200 in 10:01.37.



Toledo’s 4x100 team -- Trey Rego, Wyatt Nef, Thomas Glass and Zack Smith, were second, posting a time of 46.72.

Kole Taylor was Onalaska’s standout, winning the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 40 feet. He was also second in the long jump at 19-05.5 (a PR), and third in the 100 with a career-best time of 12.03.

On the girls side, Selena Niemi was a standout for the Mountaineers. She won the 800 (2:33.9), the 1600 (5:49.06) and the 3200 (13:01.26).

Kailey Schultz won two events, taking both the javelin (106-01) and the high jump (4-08), and Isabella Holmes set a PR on her way to taking the discus with a mark of 111-09. 

Alia Gardner led a small contingent atop the pole vault, clearing 9 feet. Teammate Anna Champlin set a personal best by clearing eight feet, good for fourth.

FAith Wellander was Adna’s lone winner, posting a career-best time of 49.44 in the 300 hurdles. She set another personal best in the 110 hurdles in 17.33 good for second.

Toledo’s Stacie Spahr set a PR in the shot put with a heave 37-06. She also set a personal best in the discus with a third-place toss of 100-04.5.

The District IV Championships is Thursday in Rainier.
