Phelps notches 1K career points as Pe Ell sails past Columbia Adventist

On a night where Karli Phelps surpassed 1,000 career points, the Pe Ell girls basketball team clinched a second straight unbeaten league season with a 69-32 victory over Columbia Adventist Thursday night.

The Trojans celebrated seniors Peyton Zock, Madi Engel, Ava King and Bailey Cox. Pe Ell jumped all over the Kodiaks with a 30-7 first quarter, led by 11 points from Zock in the frame, 10 from King and seven from Phelps.

Both teams tallied 14 in the second quarter, with Pe Ell in front at halftime 44-21. The Trojans outscored Columbia Adventist 15-8 in the third and 10-3 in the fourth.

Phelps finished with 22 points, four steals and three assists. King, a reigning WIAA Athlete of the Week, went off again for 19 points, 17 rebounds, eight steals and five assists. Zock added a double-double with 15 points and 19 rebounds.

“Tonight, we celebrated four amazing seniors whom I have had the pleasure to coach, three of them for all four years and one who played her first year of high school basketball this year,” Pe Ell head coach Kelsey Lennox said. “Peyton, Madi, Ava and Bailey are not only dedicated and hardworking athletes, but excellent student leaders and genuinely good humans.”

Pe Ell (13-7, 8-0 Columbia Valley) earns the No. 1 seed in the District 4 1B Tournament and will host No. 4 seed Mary M. Knight on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
