Pedestrian struck, killed while lying down on I-5 in Chehalis identified as Onalaska woman

A pedestrian who was struck and killed while lying in the roadway on northbound Interstate 5 in Chehalis just before 1 a.m. Sept. 14 has been identified as an Onalaska woman. 

Andrea L. Walter, 40, died at the scene. Her next of kin has since been notified of her death by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office, according to an update from the Washington State Patrol.  

Walter was reportedly on the ground in the left lane of northbound I-5 just south of milepost 78 when a semi-truck, driven by a 27-year-old man from British Columbia, struck her, according to Washington State Patrol. The semi-truck then pulled off to the right shoulder. The semi-truck driver and his passenger, a 34-year-old man from British Columbia, were uninjured. 

Washington State Patrol troopers were dispatched to the crash just before 12:50 a.m, on Thursday, Sept. 14. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. 



Drugs or alcohol were not involved, according to the state patrol.
